Melbourne Cup – Shocking in 2009

A celebration that stops a nation. People either follow the races on TV, preferably with friends in a pub, or join the almost 103,000 visitors at the tracks in Flemington, Victoria.

These visitors and those interested bet appr. 130 Mio Australian Dollars. Most diddn´t win except those that backed the outsider horse “Shocking” who won the cup this year. Never mind, the Cup is more about fashion anyway, from head to toe. There must have been around 80,000 hats and 103,000 pairs of shoes, at least at the beginning of the day. The crowd was enthusiastic crowd and a wonderful spirit reigned the sunny day.
